Definition: a description of the entities and activities involved in producing and delivering or otherwise influencing a given object, intended to represent its origin (http://www.w3.org/2005/Incubator/prov/XGR-prov-20101214/)
Examples:

definition involves some interpretation of the 'definition' in the w3c document which reads in full: "Provenance of a resource is a record that describes entities and processes involved in producing and delivering or otherwise influencing that resource. " This definition specifies 'provenance' as a kind of 'record', but in common usage I think the intention is typically to refer to description of the origin of a resource (the information content of that record...). A better label for the concept defined in the w3c doc might be 'provenance record' Submitted 14 April 2016
